Our mission begins by always loving God
We practice our love for God in many ways including community, hospitality and service. We express this love in our worship together as we “praise God from whom all blessings flow."
What is worship like at Irving Park?
Welcoming Worship
Worship can sometimes feel strange and austere to new comers. After all, some of our practices are quite old! Because of this, we strive to create an environment of welcome in our sanctuary. We take time to learn new songs so that they are not unfamiliar, to explain our rituals so that we can claim their meaning, and to always practice grace as we learn and grow. We also believe that all people are welcome in worship. When you arrive, you will be greeted and welcomed because this is a place where all people belong! The most powerful expression of our welcoming worship is at the communion table, where all people, whether they are members of this, another church, or no church, are invited to share in God’s feast of grace.
Passionate Worship
We worship in a variety of styles, but always from the heart! You are likely to hear all sorts of instruments in worship, including organ, piano, guitar, and even the occasional banjo. The most important instrument we bring to worship is ourselves. Worship is not a passive activity at Irving Park and it invites us to bring our whole self before God in praise as we sing, pray, listen, and respond to the Spirit’s calling.
Purposeful Worship
Worship is not just something we do for an hour a week. Worship gives us purpose for our daily living as individuals and as a community. Worship at Irving Park is meant to inspire us to live in this world as disciples of Jesus Christ by loving God, our neighbors, and even ourselves. As God has so loved us, we love!
